W&W "One More Song!" video

Hey what's up out there to anyone that went to the W&W show at Ruby Skye last night!  I'm sure you feel the way I do..simply...WOW!  I knew the guys had great production skills but had no idea how fun they were live and how they could really cut it up on the decks.  I'm in the process of getting together all my footage for a full video compilation of the night, but until then, here's a little something to keep you steady:

Anyone that was there knows that great "one more song" moment where the guys actually came back on stage and dropped their remix of Armin's "Rain".  Great times, great songs, just overall great vibe.  When they come back I'll definitely look forward to seeing them again.  Video coming soon!

New music from Tritonal, Stoneface & Terminal, and Dada Life! Previews galore!

What's up everyone?  2011 is already shaping up to be great with new music coming out and big projects planned from some of my favorite artists.  Some previews of new music have caught my eye and without further adieu, let's start to get STOKED!

First up, some of my favorite local US boys in the trance realm: Tritonal.  They have a big project coming up...their debut artist album!  I'm really excited with what the future holds for these dudes and look forward to hearing/seeing them grow in the coming years.  I'm sure they're destined for greatness.  Here's a preview of one of their tracks from their forthcoming album Piercing The Quiet on Air Up There Recordings / Enhanced Music:

Tritonal feat. Cristina Soto - Lifted (Mat Zo Remix)

2nd up to bat...one of my favorite producer duo's in the world: Stoneface & Terminal.  They had a great year with great singles in 2010 with "Moment" and "Don't Give A F**k" (along with various remixes of other artist songs), and they have a new single coming up on Euphonic Records called "Here To Stay".  Check it out:

Stoneface & Terminal - Here To Stay

Last and abso-LUTELY not least, two of my favorite electro boys: Dada Life!  For those that aren't too familiar with these Swedes (and how could you not be with how often I write about them), their energy levels and fun shows cannot be compared!  Without a doubt one of the greatest acts you could see in terms of electro house.  They are working on a forthcoming album as well, and they have released a preview of their new single "White Noise/Red Meat" that they premiered in Los Angeles at Together As One, due up Feb 1st on Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records.  Haha watch this preview, I love these guys:

Dada Life - White Noise/Red Meat

Three cheers for new music!  Whose excited?!?!?! Oh and by the way...for anyone who lives in San Francisco or the outlying regions... a little bird told me Dada Life was coming to Ruby Skye on Feb 10th.  Must have been a damn cool bird!  Check out the announcement coming up soon!

Markus Schulz on San Francisco, The Superbowl

"I <3 SF!"
Now, I could go on all night trying to make a list of the many reasons why we all love Markus Schulz (including myself personally) and think he's one of the greatest things to happen to electronic music, but something that really caught my eye as of late was his appreciation for my great city of San Francisco.  He may not be an SF native, but it certainly seems like he has a special love for the place all of us in the Bay Area like to call home.  Who doesn't remember that special episode of Global DJ Broadcast on New Years Eve here in San Francisco?  If you don't...I suggest you take a listen: http://sftremor.blogspot.com/2011/01/global-dj-broadcast-live-from-san.html.  And if you do...did you know he came back??  Yes, that is correct.  After his shows shortly after the dawn of the new year 2011, he flew back here just to hang out and appreciate the sights; no business.  He did a special little shout on Twitter.  Check it out:

Does that not just give you a special fuzzy feeling if you're an SF native and you dig Markus Schulz as much as I do?  That's just awesome.  Well Markus, if you're reading this, we'd love to have you back as soon as possible.  One Love.

On another note...another reason why Markus is the man: his sense of humor.  He seems to share my ideals on what seems to be going on with the superbowl.  With the Chicago Bears out and the NY Jets on the verge of blowing their great season, the superbowl is shaping up to be the Green Bay Packers vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers.  This is an absolute snoozefest to anyone from SF (or California for that matter).  The Packers have always been a rival of the golden boys the San Francisco 49ers.  And the Steelers?  Well...they're 1 superbowl ahead of the 49ers in all time superbowl wins.  Don't really want that to be 2.  Anyway...he's the man's opinion on the matter, and I couldn't agree more:

Stay classy Mr. Schulz.  As we all know you do.  Cheers!

~Mark

Congratulations to Armin van Buuren and his wife Erika!

Armin loves it when you call him big Papa!
Amazing news never ceases for this man!  In case any of you hardcore AvB fans have been living under a rock for the past couple of weeks, our #1 DJ of the world announced via Twitter a couple of weeks ago that he and his wife are expecting a baby due in the summer.  It couldn't be a greater moment for a greater man to experience fatherhood, I'm sure.  After so many years of hard work, I would imagine he will take quite a chunk of time off in 2011 to really become a family man.  After a huge album, a huge Armin Only tour, HUGE plans for A State of Trance 500, and winning DJMag's #1 DJ award for the 4th year in a row...he's due for this happiness.  Does this put his #1 spot in jeopardy?  Only time will tell.  Who will claim the crown?  Anyways...I'm getting away from the point.  The point is, we all feel very excited for the new Papa van Buuren.  He has been congratulated by his DJ friends all over the world.  Here's a warm special shout out from one of my favorites, Ferry Corsten:

So now begs the question who's going to nanny the kid while big Papa is on tour and Erika is busy?  I think our pal Markus Schulz stepped up for that one...LOL!

"Uncle Markus"
I feel like Markus would be like the fun party Uncle.  We all have one of those!  Oh not everyone?  Just me?  Well Uncle Cesar is the man!  Let me close this off by saying a very heartfelt CONGRATULATONS ARMIN!!  Everyone here in San Francisco loves you very much!! Happy A State of Sunday Everyone!

Wobbleland Guest Review!

Hey what's up everyone.  For anyone whose into dubstep and lives in the Bay Area (as I'm guessing a lot of you are these days), there's a HUGE event going on this Saturday January 22nd at The Factory (also known as Club 525) in San Francisco for all you wobble heads.  Wobbleland is the biggest dubstep event to happen in the Bay Area to date and as a result, sold out quick status!  Who didn't expect it to with dubstep juggernauts Nero, Datsik, and Skrillex in the mix.  Anybody going that feels like writing a guest review of the show for this site after the event?  Feel like taking lots of pictures and video?  Well post in the comments and all proper arrangements shall be made!  If you like writing then this is the place!  Let's document the craziness that I'm sure is to ensue.

Where are you Daft Punk?? (Coachella Preview & Laidback Luke Shoutout)

Master Houdinis
After the rumor mill has been ABLAZE about Daft Punk making their grand return to the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA this spring, everyone had their hopes and dreams crushed with the announcement today of the official lineup.  Any electronic music enthusiast (including myself) was shocked to see the omission of the legendary French house duo on the final bill.  Was it just speculation then?  Was all this news a false concoction of sheer hope and excitement that we might actually see Daft Punk live again since their disappearing act after the 2007 Alive tour?  Most likely.  The possibility still exists that they could be one of the later additions to the lineup and they don't feel like announcing it now.  However, I find it highly unlikely considering the caliber of performers that they are and how huge their name is.  Especially ever since they are back in the spotlight with the release of Tron: Legacy and their smash single "Derezzed", I doubt they could keep something so secret until the end.  The point always remains tho...I could be wrong!  So what's on the menu for Daft Punk then?  Are they even going to tour at all in 2011?  Are they going to do anything for their groundbreaking film score?  At this point, it seems like they almost enjoy not touring or being in the spotlight at all.  In a sick way however, I'm slightly intrigued that they aren't going to be at Coachella.  Why?  Because it gives all the more opportunity for them to perform at the premier electronic event on the west coast: Electric Daisy Carnival!  A VERY long shot I know, but if I had to pick a show for them to be part of, it would certainly be that.  A guy can dream you know....

...Anyway, back to Coachella.  Some interesting acts on the lineup, no doubt.  For all the EDM heads in the Sahara tent, we got: The Chemical Brothers, Sasha, Afrojack, Crystal Castles, Boys Noize, Skrillex, Steve Angello, Paul van Dyk, Fedde Le Grand, Laidback Luke, Chuckie, Axwell, Bloody Beetroots, Duck Sauce, and Jack Beats (forgive me if I forgot any important ones).  Holy moly!  That's as huge a lineup as you could ever get at one particular music festival.  Definitely exciting to see these big names on the rise in such a high profile music festival.  Coachella has always appreciated electronic music, and we can certainly thank them for that.  Who else can I thank at the moment?  Shout out to Laidback Luke who responded to my twitter plug when I found out the final Coachella lineup.  Check out the big homie below!

Isn't that just cool? No? It's just me? Oh well...lol.  Anyway, Coachella looks dope.  I'm sure it will be another one for the books.

#ShoutOut to all the readers!

Hey everyone.  I know the audience is small thus far, but I want to thank everyone and anyone who has ever checked out the SF Tremor.  Anybody have friends who follow electronic music in the bay area?  Spread the word.  I will start putting up more local news to be more of an information super highway for anybody who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area (along with my usual blabber, humor, and commentary).  And while you're at it...click one of the ads on the side or under each blog post.  I promise they won't break your computer and a lot of times it has some cool info.  Anyways..that aside, let's keep 2011 rolling with a bang.  Looking forward to hearing all the new music that will be released in the coming months.

Cheers to all,

Mark

Skrillex: Sonny Moore back from the dead with new life

Now while I may not be the biggest aficionado of dubstep, glitch, or any of that other somewhat obscure stuff, I can indeed point out talent and give credit where it's due.  In this case, with the absolutely DRAMATIC rise in the popularity of dubstep, one of the genre's rising stars is Skrillex.  I'm sure even if you don't dig dubstep you've heard the name.  He's even managed to get on an episode of Gareth Emery's podcast.  That's a pretty big testament to his popularity despite being labeled to a particular genre.  It certainly doesn't hurt to be endorsed and signed to mau5trap records by one of the biggest names in electronic music today: Deadmau5.  However, looking at Skrillex's picture, I couldn't help but notice something familiar.  The awful hair, the pale skin, the piercings, the kind of blank stare...he reminded me of...noooo it couldn't be....oh but IT IS!  After some wikipedia investigation, my guess was correct.  He is the closely forgotten Sonny Moore formerly of the band From First To Last.  Anybody that had their emo phase (as I did), FFTL was one of the bands you expected to jump to popularity next.  Unfortunately, they never did.  And Sonny left the band to pursue solo music and let his vocal chords heal as the screaming was bad for his health and actually required surgery.  Little did we know, in that sabbatical, Sonny would undergo a transformation, immerse himself in the world of synthesizers, and resurrect himself in the form of Skrillex.  Take a listen to one of his tracks:

Rock N' Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain):

Glad to see my man is doing well.  His hair however, remained a lost cause.

#NowPlaying: Markus Schulz "The New World (Barnes & Heatcliff Remix)" HOLY $H!T

So I hope you all have started listening to (if not finished by now) the San Francisco World Tour New Years episode of Global DJ Broadcast.  I certainly have had that bad boy on repeat and have certainly found my favorite track off of that entire episode.  "The New World (Original Mix)" was great on its own...but this remix by Barnes & Heatcliff is just...wow.  Take a listen for yourself.  I can tell I'll get burned out of this one real quick by having it on repeat so much.  I don't think it's available yet for purchase, but use your resources.  I'm sure it's around somewhere.

Global DJ Broadcast: Live from San Francisco on New Years Eve!

Hey everyone!  Hope everyone is having a great 2011 thus far.  Can't say I can complain very much about mine.  I've been living it up, as I hope all of you have as well.  However, if you're still feeling after effects of your New Years Eve, beside from probably going to the doctor, you should check out the newest episode of Global DJ Broadcast if you've still got your party hat on.  For anyone that was present at this show...I can imagine it was nothing less than epic.  This 2 hour excerpt of Markus Schulz's 5 1/2 hour set from that night showcases the madness that went on at Ruby Skye that night.  So hear it is...for your listening and downloading pleasure (complete with tracklist and track location):

Happy New Year! and Gareth Emery's 2010 Mix

Well I had to do this sooner or later...HAPPY NEW YEAR from the SF Tremor!!  This is the first post of the year, and as such, I'd like to dedicate this post to the great year in music that was 2010.  I would kill myself trying to put into a list my favorite tracks of 2010, but I know a man who did a pretty good job of summing the year up himself....and that would be Gareth Emery.  If you haven't taken a gander at his last podcast of 2010 (#114), definitely take 4 hours out of your day and take a listen to it.  A 4 hour mix you say?? Yes, that was not a typo.  4 hours of pure awesome-ness.  50 of his favorite tunes from the last year, and I have to say I agree with many of them.  Sit down, lay back (or whatever), and enjoy the year that was 2010 in this amazing podcast mix.  Cheers to you 2010!  Now onto 2011!  Oh what craziness may lie ahead...
